Emergency Telephone Callboxes to Shutdown on Maui

MAUI (KHNL) -- County of Maui's roadside emergency telephone callboxes will be shutdown.

Maui police say 22 callboxes are being shut down because the telephones are on an analog system.

They say Verizon Wireless will be going to a digital system, which the current telephones do not have the capability to run on.

The callboxes will be shut down on February 18.

The location of the 22 callboxes are:

  • 1. Haleakala Highway at Milepost #3 (Keahua intersection)
  • 2. Honoapiilani Highway at the Pali Lookout, Maalaea
  • 3. Kahekili Highway (340), Kahakuloa (past Smith's Aina)
  • 4. Kahekili Highway (340), entrance to Camp Maluhia
  • 5. Kokomo Road, at Marine Park, Haiku
  • 6. Baldwin Avenue, at Rainbow Park, Paia
  • 7. Baldwin Avenue, at Haliimaile Road intersection, Haliimaile
  • 8. Hansen road, at Pulehu Road intersection, Puunene
  • 9. Pulehu Road, at Omaopio Road intersection, Puunene
  • 10. Mokulele Highway, at Mehameha Loop (Alternate Route), Puunene
  • 11. North Kihei Road, at Milepost #2, Maalaea
  • 12. Honoapiilani Highway, at Ukumehame Beach Park, Ukumehame
  • 13. Honoapiilani Highway, at Puamana Park, Lahaina
  • 14. Honoapiilani Highway, at Akahele Street intersection, Lahaina
