BIG ISLAND (KHNL) -- As much as the recent heavy rains have made for dangerous conditions, there's also a positive side to all this nasty weather.
Here's a look at some great images showing the natural beauty of the Big Island.
While the rain continues to fall across the state, it's snow that's been causing a stir on the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
These are just a few of the many pictures taken courtesy of prolific See It, Snap It, Send It contributor Elliott Markell.
This one looking from Volcanoes National Park up towards Mauna Loa. Some spots in the area have seen as much as half a foot of snow.
The weather also created some dramatic cloud formations at the higher elevations. You can see the many layers of them stacking up in the atmosphere as a few ominous and gray clouds roll in.
Volcano activity in the area also continues to produce images of an ever-changing island. These pictures were taken along Crater Rim Drive inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
And the rain is also keeping things around the state green, or in this case pink.
