Proposed AM Radio Station Will Help Traffic Congestion

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Lawmakers are proposing an AM radio broadcast system that would provide numerous advantages to Hawaii drivers.

Rep. K. Mark Takai introduced HB 1972, a bill that would require the State Department of Transportation to establish and operate a county-wide highway advisory radio (HAR) broadcast system.

The system would provide Oahu drivers with updated information on traffic conditions, including detours, highway closures, work zones and traffic accidents.

It could be broadcast 24 hours a day.

There are already 20 states that have the HAR broadcast system in place.
