Red Cross Offers Flooding and Disaster Preparedness Tips

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The American Red Cross offers safety tips for those affected by flooding throughout the state of Hawaii.

Red Cross staff says if your home has been flooded, excess moisture and standing water can contribute to the growth of mold, which may become a health risk for you and your family.

The ARC recommends opening your doors and windows to air out your home and thoroughly clean items that have been contaminated with flood water.

If you have an open wound or cut that has been in contact with flood water, clean it with soap and water and apply antibacterial ointment.

Do not allow children to play in places or with toys that have been in contact with flood water.
