Haleakala Park Closed Due to Flooding Roads

HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK (KHNL) --  Haleakala National Park is closed again due to flooding on the road.

Officials say the park has experienced very heavy rains and high winds throughout the day.

The closure will remain in effect through sunrise on Friday.

A portion of the park was opened briefly Thursday morning.

"We are so pleased that we were able to welcome visitors to the park today," said Barry Lewis, Incident Commander.  "We try our best to balance visitor interest against safety concerns and I think we've done a good job this time."

Park staff will assess the situation Friday morning and make a determination regarding the safety of roads and weather condition.
