Man Charged With Murdering Toddler Pleads Not Guilty

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The suspected crystal meth addict charged with killing an Oahu toddler entered his plea Monday.

Matthew Higa appeared before a Circuit Court judge via video hook-up from the Oahu Community Correctional Center. The 23-year-old pleaded not guilty to an enhanced murder charge.

He's accused of throwing a 23-month-old boy off the Miller Street pedestrian overpass January 17th. Cyrus Belt died on the H-1 Freeway below.

Higa's trial is tentatively set for March. If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
