HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK (KHNL) -- The road to the summit of Haleakala is closed due to ice and extreme weather condition.
The road was closed predawn Tuesday and remains closed until further notice.
Road conditions through the summit area remain hazardous with low visibility and ice on the road.
The closure affects the whole Summit Area including the campground at Hosmer Grove.
Kipahulu along the coast near Hana remains open.
Officials say ice and high winds are beating the summit of Haleakala.
The Headquarters Vistor Center is open but the road beyond the center is closed.
Visitors are advised not to go to the summit.
During periods of snowfall, visitors are reminded that going off trail or along the roadside may damage or kill endangered plants and animals that reside in the park.
