Visitor Arrested Following Pedestrian’s Death

POIPU, Kauai (KHNL) -- A 53-year-old visitor from New Mexico was arrested Monday for third degree negligent homicide.

George Hostetter was arrested following the death of 81-year-old Juan Lorenzo, Sr. of Kalaheo.

Lorenzo was crossing Kaumualii Highway in Kalaheo last Thursday morning when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Hostetter.

Lorenzo was taken to Kauai Veteran's Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center. He died Saturday of injuries sustained in the accident.

Lorenzo is the first traffic fatality on Kauai this year.

Hostetter was released on bail and is scheduled for a March 5th court appearance.
