KAHALUU (KHNL) --Friends and family said their final goodbyes Tuesday morning, to Janel Tupuola - the young Kailua mother who was murdered last week.

Memorial services were held at Janel's church, Windward Baptist in Kahaluu.

Loved ones were able to reflect on happier times. Photos showed Janel and her family over the years.

Those who spoke at her memorial service talked about not reflecting on the violent way she died, rather they celebrated the way she lived.

"Because of her personality, she had a big smile and a big heart she had such a firecracker personality.  I tell you, if you met Janel, you would never forget Janel, you could talk to her and ten years later, she would pick up where you left off," said Maile Badajos, Janel's mother.

Janel's ex-boyfriend is accused of beating her to death with the butt of a shotgun.

There is a silent march and vigil planned at the State Capitol, to honor Janel as well as little Cyrus Belt, the one-year-old who was thrown from a pedestrian overpass down onto oncoming traffic on the H-1 Freeway.
