(KHNL) -- A Hawaii based sailor who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom is declared dead.
The Department of Defense says 24-year-old Petty Officer Second Class Menelek Brown of Roswell, New Mexico is declared dead after going overboard from the USS Hopper in the Arabian Sea January 3.
Navy aircraft and ships conducted an extensive search but did not find him.
The USS Hopper is homeported in Pearl Harbor.
