Kauai Police Seek Information on Kapaa Explosion

KAPAA, Kauai (KHNL) -- The Kauai Police Department is asking for your help with information regarding an explosion that occurred at Kapaa Elementary School over the weekend.

Police dispatch received numerous calls from residents at around 11 PM Friday about a loud explosion coming from Kapaa Elementary School.

When officers arrived, they found a home-made bomb that had exploded outside the sliding door of the school library causing the door to buckle and the glass to crack like a spider web.

Officers also found black powdery residue on the sliding door and pieces of the explosive device scattered around the area.

No one was injured and no other structures were damaged.

According to police, security guards were working at the school on Friday night, but they were not near the library at the time of the incident.
