Man Arrested for Trespassing and Resisting Arrest

PRINCEVILLE, Kauai (KHNL) -- A 24-year-old Anahola man was arrested in Princeville Thursday afternoon for trespassing and resisting arrest.

Police say Hale Mawae was among a group of people who had congregated outside radio station KKCR at around 4 pm Thursday, reportedly in protest of the termination of two KKCR talk show hosts.

A manager from KKCR called police.

Officers responded and explained to the group that while they had a right to express their opinion, they could do so only in a public right of way.

The officers pointed out where KKCR/Princeville's property ends and where the right of way begins.

Following the explanation, the group complied and moved over to the right of way.

A while later, Mawae returned to the entrance of KKCR/Princeville.

Police repeatedly told Mawae he had to leave or he would be arrested. Mawae refused and was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest.

Mawae was released after posting a $170 bail.
