Matson Raising Fuel Related Surcharge

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Matson customers will see an increase in fuel surcharge beginning next month.

Matson Navigation Company is raising its fuel related surcharge from 29% to 31.5% for its Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia services.  That's up by 2.5 percentage points.

The change will take effect February 4.

Matson officials say this adjustment is necessary because of high fuel costs.

They say they will continue to monitor fuel prices and adjust the fuel surcharge accordingly.

The last raise was back in December 2007, when the company increased the charge to 29%.
