HPD Honors Kalihi Officer for Copper, Drug Investigations

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The Honolulu Police Department on Wednesday honored an officer for his investigation into metal recyclers suspected of copper law violations.

Erik Yamane of the Kalihi Crime Reduction Unit was named officer of the quarter.

Police say he played a key role in Operation Full Copper Jacket 2. Undercover officers visited recyclers to see if they're following the new law's more stringent requirements when accepting copper.

This quarter, Yamane also conducted drug investigations that led to the recovery of crystal methamphetamine and cash. He also helped nab a sex assault suspect, as well as a fugitive from Indiana.
