Army to Increase Forces

FORT SHAFTER (KHNL) -- The Army plans to increase its strength by about 74,200 soldiers over the next five years.

The Army continues to adjust its forces to meet new security conditions.  Army officials believe Hawaii is a strategic location to project the forces.

The plan identifies potential increases of about 1000 active-duty soldiers in Hawaii, mostly in headquarters, military police, explosive ordnance disposal and engineer company-sized or smaller units.

Over the next five years, the Army hopes to retain an engineer brigade headquarters, a military police company, a Criminal Investigations Division Battalion headquarters, and a military police brigade headquarters at Schofield Barracks.
