Honolulu Launches Discount Program for Prescription Drugs

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Frustrated by the cost of prescription drugs? On Tuesday, Honolulu officials launched a program that, they say, provides an average savings of 20% off the cost of commonly prescribed drugs.

City officials say free discount cards may be used by all Oahu residents regardless of age, income or health coverage. All you have to do is present the card at a participating pharmacy.

"One of the beauty of what we're trying to do here, too, is say that if it works well in Honolulu, which we believe it will, then it would have applicability and appropriateness for our neighbor island counties," Mufi Hannemann, Honolulu Mayor, said.

The program is sponsored by the National Association of Counties.

The cards are available at Satellite City Halls.
