No Pollution Threat from Grounded Waikiki Sailboat

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The U.S. Coast Guard says a grounded 36-foot sailboat in Waikiki posed no pollution threat to the maritime environment.

About 30 gallons of diesel were reported to be aboard the vessel when it ran aground at about 1:22 Tuesday morning.

Coast Guard officials say once the hazardous chemicas are removed, the vessel is no longer a pollution threat.

A man and a woman, both in their 40's, were aboard the sailboat when it ran aground and taking on water about 200 yards offshore on the reef in front of the Outrigger Reef Hotel in Waikiki.

They reported no injuries.
