Playwright Killed in Crash Had Alcohol in Her System

HONOLULU (KHNL) - An award-winning Hawaii playwright, killed in a crash on the H-1 Freeway last Friday, was drinking before she got behind the wheel.

Police say Lisa Matsumoto was driving in the wrong direction on the H-1, when her car slammed head-on into another vehicle. The 43-year-old died at the Queen's Medical Center.

An autopsy conducted Monday found Matsumoto died from injuries to her neck, and that acute alcohol intoxication was another significant factor.

The 35-year-old woman driving the other car suffered serious head and leg injuries.
