Mauna Kea Resort Getting $150M Makeover

MAUNA KEA RESORT, Big Island (KHNL) -- The Mauna Kea Resort on the Big Island is getting a $150 million makeover.

The hotel closed down in December 2006 after suffering structural damage from earthquakes off the Big Island.

The extensive multi-million dollar refurbishment will focus on primarily on the interiors, including guest rooms, lobby, restaurants and other common areas.  No changes will be made to its exterior.

The Mauna Kea Golf Course, which closed earlier this year, has already begun a sweeping tee-to-green restoration.

The hotel and gold course are expected to reopen in December 2008.
