HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Five Hawaii students, who were recent winners of the Music Teachers National Association's string and piano competitions, are heading for the Southwest Regional competition in Los Cruces, New Mexico in January.

Heejin Kang, Chandra Susilo, Asia Doike, Maile Cha and T.J. Tario will represent Hawaii when they compete against other students from Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.

The regional winners will go on to compete at the MTNA National Conference in Colorado.

A fundraiser concert to help the students with traveling expenses will be held on December 30 at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
