Beachgoers Find Monk Seal Napping on Beach

EWA BEACH (KHNL) -- Residents of an Ewa Beach neighborhood off Oneula Place found a visitor resting in the sand Monday morning.

A monk seal decided this beach was a great place to enjoy a nap.

Beachgoers let the seal relax undisturbed but no one could resist taking a few pictures before heading on their way.

A KHNL News 8 viewer sent in this See It, Snap It, Send It photo.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was notified so they could keep track of the seal's activities.

A NOAA representative says the Monk Seal is known as "Kermit" and frequents the south shore around Ewa Beach.

A neighbor was quoted saying, "We are blessed to have such a welcome guest."

Vacation rental visitors stated how excited they are to be able to see such animals laying naturally on the beach right outside their windows.
