Elderly Couple Crashes Car Through Supermarket Wall

MOILIILI (KHNL) -- A morning grocery run turned into a wake up call for an elderly couple, when they crashed their car in a supermarket parking lot.

KHNL News viewer Lois Iwashita Brown was there and snapped these photos.

The elderly couple rammed this wall at the Times Super Market in Moiliili just before ten Thursday morning.

The car ended up on top of a 124-gallon propane tank.

Fire officials say the situation could have been much worse if there was a propane leak.

"It would've been both a fire and a hazmat situation," said Captain Terry Seelig.  "So we had the resources here in case something did go wrong that we'd be able to control a fire or an explosion."

The elderly couple who were in this car were not seriously injured.  They were treated and released by paramedics.

The car was towed away around 12:30 p.m.
