Coast Guard Enforces Kahului Security Zones

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The U.S. Coast Guard will enforce a moving and fixed security zone at Kahului Harbor when the Alakai resumes service on December 6.

The moving security zone extends 100 yards around the Alakai and is activated when the vessel is within three nautical miles of the habor entrance.  The zone moves with the Alakai and remains in effect when the vessel is moored, anchored or idling.

The fixed security zone will be activated one hour before the Alakai's arrival into Kahului Harbor and will be deactivated 10 minutes after the departure.

Both security zones will be in effect when the Alakai is approaching and in Kahului Harbor.  Anyone who enters the security zones without permission will face criminal charges.
