Cyber Monday Increases Online Sales for Local Retailers

By Cindy Cha

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- While Cyber Monday is not as popular as Black Friday, many shoppers do take advantage of the online shopping season.

And many local stores have shops online where you can get some great deals.

Online shopping is probably one of the easiest ways to shop.  There's no waiting in long lines, no fighting the crowds.

And on Monday, many local merchants are seeing an increase in online sales.

Big Island Candies is one of the busiest shops in Hawaii. Combine that with the busy holiday season and it's nuts.

Tis the season to be jolly, and from the look of how online sales are going, Big Island Candies is having a cheerful time.

Cyber Monday is one of the reasons their online sales have jumped.

"We have a steady amount of business all year round but of course it goes up because of the holidays, our online sales they're going briskly," said Lance Duyao of Big Island Candies.

It's no surprise Big Island Candies is doing so well Duyao says candies make great holiday gifts.

"People like to share that, it's something that's so cherished, people like to share it with people around the world."

Ainokea Clothing Company is also seeing an increase online.

"The sales have increased quite a bit, maybe at least 25% to 30%, with the traffic a lot of people don't want to deal with the parking situation, it's easier to shop from home," said Shawn Yamamoto of Ainokea Clothing Company.

And though many still do their shopping the traditional way, for many online merchants, the Monday after Thanksgiving is indeed the peak day of the season.

Many online retailers are counting on sales to peak not only on Cyber Monday but over the next few weeks as well.
