Memorial Service for Air Force Major Killed in Traffic Crash

HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE (KHNL) -- Family and friends of an Air Force Major killed in a hit-and-run crash on Oahu over the weekend celebrated his life during a memorial service Friday.

The ceremony at Hickam Air Force Base recognized Major John Jackson's 14 years of service.

The 36-year-old was the chief of the Northeast Asia Region Branch, and was considered an expert on China and Taiwan affairs. He was up for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel.

A van crashed into Jackson as he stood outside a car preparing to tow a motorcycle Saturday. The van's driver ran away from the scene.
