EWA BEACH (KHNL) -- An Oahu high school principal loses a bet with students, and now has to dye her hair orange!
Campbell High principal Gail Awakuni told last year's sophomore class she would color her hair saber orange if they met the math and reading goals set by the No Child Left Behind Act.
They needed a 28 on math, and a 44 on reading.
Over the past four years, the average was 8% for math, and 30% for reading, so she thought it was a safe bet.
"The kids blew those numbers away. We're so proud of the students. That's why we're celebrating their success," said Dr. Awakuni. "Progress over time. They tripled their math scores, and they doubled their reading, and the reading was already high, so we're proud."
