Preschoolers Learn about Police Work

KAPAA, Kauai (KHNL) -  Students from KIDS School and the Kamehameha Schools' Anahola Preschool got an up close and personal look at what the Kauai Police Deparment's work entails, particularly their anti-drug efforts.

It's all part of the police department's annual Drug Demand Reduction Program, which aims to educate school-age children on the harmful effects of illicit drugs.

"We do this every year for different schools around the island, and hopefully it has a positive impact on the kids," said Lt. Michael Contrades. "We all need to do our part to prevent them from getting into drugs because we know how devastating it could be for them, their families and friends, as well as the community."

About a dozen police officers took part in the event held Thursday morning at the Kapaa Beach Park.
