Red Cross Helps Victims of Salt Lake Fire

HONOLULU (KHNL) - American Red Cross volunteers are providing crisis counseling for the families involved in a fire in Salt Lake that destroyed the home and claimed the life of a five year old boy.

A team of three volunteer caseworkers also responded to ensure the families' immediate emergency needs were met.

The Red Cross provided emergency assistance to 31 family members for emergency shelter, food, clothing and bedding.  Teddy bears were also provided to comfort the fifteen children who lived in the residence and ranged in age from 4 months to 13 years old.

Caseworkers will continue to follow up with the family to ensure their immediate needs are met, and to provide referrals to assist with their disaster recovery.
