KAILUA-KONA (KHNL) - Big Island police identified a 23-year-old man fatally injured in traffic accident as Michael Gomes of Kailua-Kona.
They say Gomes' vehicle ran off Queen Kaahumanu Highway and overturned Sunday morning.
Gomes wasn't wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the vehicle.
His two passengers -- an 18-year-old woman and a two-year-old boy -- suffered only minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt and he was in a car seat.
Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
It was the Big Island's 34th traffic fatality of the year.
