Shark Sighted on North Shore

NORTH SHORE (KHNL) -- Beach-goers are urged to use caution when entering waters off the North Shore.

At approximately 12:30 Saturday afternoon, a Honolulu Police Department helicopter spotted what appeared to be a 12- to 15-foot tiger shark off Chun's Reef.

Ocean Safety was notified and they patrolled the waters, notifying any water-goers about the situation.

Though they do not have the authority to close the beaches, lifeguards are strongly urging people to enjoy the water at safer locations.

Signs have been posted and Ocean Safety officials continued to monitor the area.

A re-assessment will be made Sunday whether to keep the signs up.

No injuries were reported.
