KAHALA (KHNL) - It's still October. So have you started thinking about Christmas yet? A lot of retailers already have, and here in Hawaii, they say they're expecting a green Christmas.

Cinammon Girl opened a holiday store at Kahala Mall. It'll be there through January, and if it does well, it'll be there permanently. This is just one of the many retailers gearing up for the holiday shopping season.

This week, the National Retail Federation issued a pessimistic forecast for the upcoming season, predicting growth of only 4 percent over 2006 sales, the lowest forecast since 2002. But the Hawaii merchants we talked to aren't worried.

Stacia Mendoza, supervisor at Cinammon Girl's Kahala Mall store, says, "I think Hawaii doesn't follow the trends in the mainland always, and if we didn't think we were going to do good we wouldn't have opened the store."

The National Retail Federation defines the holiday shopping season as the months of November and December, although many shoppers start counting from the morning after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday.
