MANOA (KHNL) - A national ranking.
An undefeated season.
Talk of Heisman awards and BCS bowls.
It's subjects not normally associated with Warrior football. But head coach June Jones changed all that.
And now, there's a book chronicling the journey of Coach Jones, and the Hawaii football program.
It's called Hawaii Warrior Football -- a story of faith, hope, and redemption.
"The book is actually better than what I originally thought it was gonna be," said Jones. "It's pretty awesome."
So is the initial response. Last weekend, fans lined up for an advanced copy, autographed by one of its main subjects. At first, Warrior head coach June Jones didn't want to be a part of the book.
"When the author had already written three chapters of the book, it was a little different than what I anticipated," said Jones. "It really tells of a lot of stories about a lot of kids that i had. Players he interviewed all over the country. it's a pretty moving book."
So moving, Jones wrote the forward.
Author J. David Miller talked to inside sources about the Warrior program, mostly former and current players.
He learned how Jones turned around a once winless program, to one that now wants to, and expects to be great.
But the book is definitely not about x's and o's. It's about destiny, second chances, and ohana.
"I think that it has lesson for young coaches, lessons for life," said Jones. "For kids and it's pretty powerful stories on there. You're gonna enjoy reading it."
The book comes out in stores November 1st. Or you can order it online.
