Rep. Karamatsu, No. 2 in House, Arrested for DUI

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Hawaii Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Jon Riki Karamatsu was arrested for driving under the influence early Tuesday morning.

Karamatsu, D-Waipahu-Waikele, said he was arrested after socializing with friends.

In a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, Karamatsu said, "I made a serious error in judgment. I want to apologize to my family, my colleagues and constituents for any trouble or embarrassment caused by this incident.  I will cooperate fully with the court on this issue.  I do understand that elected officials should be held to a higher standard, and I will work very hard to regain the public's trust."

As vice speaker, Karamatsu holds the No. 2 position in the House for majority Democrats.
