HONOLULU (KHNL) -The Hawai'i football team may have fallen in the BCS rankings, but Colt Brennan is still riding high. And though nobody really knows how seriously Brennan is being considered for the Heisman, if it were up to his coach, after last friday's san jose game, the decision wouldn't be hard.
"I think that colt's play in that game will win him the heisman if he plays well the last five games." said Jones
Strong words from a coach who usually remains pretty mum on the subject, but after witnessing one of the greatest warrior comebacks, Jones couldn't help but talk about his star.
"He finished the game and won the game for us after coming through a lot of negative things," said Jones
And that's an understatement. Despite scoring five touchdowns, Colt was sacked four times, and threw four interceptions.
"I think Colt, if the ball had been dry, probably would've thrown one pick and had 750 yards of passing," said Jones.
Statistics aside, the ability to weather that adversity and lead the team to victory is what people will remember.
"Guys that do that, that means more to people. I already got 4 or 5 calls from NFL scouts about that, and that's what i told him, I called him over and said Colt, you win this game for and you get this done, this will do more for you than you will ever imagine," said Jones.
Now with a bye week ahead, the team will spend the next two weeks preparing for New Mexico, where Colt will once again look to lead the warriors on their quest for a BCS berth.
"If we win he'll be impressive because there's no way we can win unless he is, " said Jones
The Warriors will be back in the friendly confines of Aloha stadium. The game is slated for Saturday the 27th, kick off at 6:05.
