HONOLULU (KHNL) - Before the Cleveland Indians begins their league championship series against Boston Friday, the Elite Sports Academy, the newest division of the Kama'aina kids, wanted to show their support to the Cleveland coaches by sending a case of Spam to the team clubhouse.
The gifts are to show gratitude to Indians manager Eric Wedge, who along with five of his coaches, will conduct three baseball clinics for Oahu athletes next month. Organizers hope the clinics will make Hawai'i athletics that much better.
"Well one of the main things we want to try and establish here is raising the bar for athletics in Hawai'i, and by teaching them good sound fundamentals from some proven professionals in their sport and having a lot of fun with it as well as in this case, the case of spam," says Leroy Nicolas, senior director of the ESA.
Nicolas hopes the package arrives just in time for game 3 of the Indians vs. Red Sox series on Monday when Cleveland will host Boston.
