Fisherman Escapes Death After Being Swept to Sea

PUNA DISTRICT, Hawaii  (KHNL) - A fisherman escaped a brush with death after being swept out to sea on the Big Island.

It happened around 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials say the 42-year old man was swept into the ocean while fishing in Opihikao which is on the east side of the Big Island.

When a fire helicopter arrived on scene, they found the man hanging onto a cooler.

Rescuers managed to pull him from the water and take him to shore.

The man was not hurt.
