Aloha Stadium Getting $12 Million Facelift

HONOLULU (KHNL) -  Aloha Stadium will be getting a $12 million facelift.

Repairs and safety improvements include cleaning and recoating corroded steel surfaces, reinforcing the pedestrian concourse bridges to minimize vibration, installing additional handrails in stair walkways to reduce the risk of injury, improving electrical and other existing utilities and performing preventative structural upgrades and other renovations needed to ensure the stadium's structural certification.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2008.

Opened in 1975, Aloha Stadium has a seating capacity of 48,000.  It is home to the University of Hawaii Warriors football team and hosts many other events, including the NFL Pro Bowl, high school athletics, soccer matches, concerts, car shows and swap meet.
