Officials Test Maile Amber Alert System

(KHNL) -  For those of you, who were on the road, or at home watching television, you might have noticed a statewide Maile Amber alert test that took place a little after noon Wednesday.

The Maile Amber alert stands for  "Minor Abducted in Life-Threatening Emergency," and "America's Missing Broadcast Emergency Response."

It's named in honor of 6-year-old Maile Gilbert of Kailua and 9-year-old Amber Hagerman from Texas.

The purpose of the test is to make sure that the necessary equipment on each island is working properly in case that an actual alert is necessary
