Jury in Porky Case Goes Home Without Verdict

By Minna Sugimoto

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- After a full day of deliberations, an Oahu jury deciding the fate of a suspected pet pig killer went home Wednesday night without a verdict.

Joseph Calarruda is charged with livestock theft. Prosecutors say he's a pig hunter who went to a Mililani farm without permission last October, and killed Porky, the farm manager's six-year-old pet.

Despite multiple witnesses placing him at the scene, the defendant maintains he was with his girlfriend in Waianae that night. During the trial, another man testified that he killed the pig, not Calarruda.

The jury will resume deliberations Thursday.
