Early Morning Building Fire in Kalihi

(KHNL) - Honolulu fire fighters responded to a two alarm building fire on Auiki Street in Kalihi early Wednesday morning.  The fire was called in around 1:15.  One person was treated for smoke inhalation. 

"There was heavy smoke when we arrived. And the individual from the apartment was able to escape from his apartment and out on to the roof. We had the ladder company at that time raise the ladder to t roof and get theindividual off the roof. He was treated at the scene by EMS and remained at the scene" said Captain Frank Johnson of the Honolulu Fire Department.

Firefighters got the blaze under control within minutes. Neighboring businesses suffered heavy smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
