Marshals Service Nets 29 in Kauai Crime Sweep

LIHUE, Kauai (KHNL) - A crime sweep led by the U.S. Marshals Service on Kauai has netted 29 fugitives. Most were arrested for outstanding drug cases.

Federal agents joined sheriff's deputies, Kauai police, Hawaii County police and the prosecutor's office in a four-day crackdown last week.

The service says the surprise sweep focused on capturing fugitives who thought they wouldn't have to answer to outstanding warrants.

The sweep lasted from sunrise Tuesday to sunset Friday and resulted in 42 outstanding warrants being cleared or executed.

Five additional drug charges were also filed.

Besides drug crimes, arrests were made in assault, sexual assault and family abuse cases.
