First Hawaiian Bank Honors the Late Doc Buyers

HONOLULU (KHNL) -  First Hawaiian Bank donated $50,000 to Hawaii Island United Way's Community Care Fund in honor of the late John W.A. "Doc" Buyers.

Buyers, the former president and CEO of C. Brewer & Co. Ltd., passed away last May at the age of 77.  He left behind a legacy for Hawaii.

"Hawaii Island United Way is grateful to First Hawaiian Bank for this wonderful gift made in memory of Doc Buyers," said Darla DeVille, Hawaii Island United Way's president and chief professional officer. "It is a fitting tribute for Doc who was a great supporter of our Hawaii Island community and HIUW."

The fund will be invested in 50 vital health and human service programs offered through 35 local non-profit organizations on the Hawaii island.
