Big Island Man Wins AARP Calendar Contest

HONOLULU (KHNL) - A painting by Big Island resident Larry Morez has been selected from among more than 800 submissions to be included in AARP Foundation's 2008 Calendar.

Morez's paintings of Hookena Beach in South Kona is the featured image for July. 

The theme of the calendar, "America: From Sea to Shining Sea," features pictures ranging from the beaches of Hawaii to the Wonder Wheel at Coney Island.

The original 24-by-30 inch acrylic painting will be auctioned off along with the other winners next week at an AARP event in Massachusetts.

Prints of the winning submissions are available for purchase online.  All proceeds will go to the AARP Foundatiion to support philanthropic work in communities nationwide.
