Firefighters Respond To Gas Leak In Chinatown

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Honolulu firefighters rushed into Chinatown at lunchtime Wednesday. Not for the roast chicken and char siu, but to respond to a small gas leak.

Fire officials say a pipe containing synthetic natural gas was damaged during renovation work at the back of an empty store on Maunakea Street. None of the neighboring shops was evacuated.

Gas company crews had the situation under control within half an hour.
