HONOLULU (KHNL) - A man accused of theft for allegedly filing false and fraudulent individual income tax return has been extradited from Florida on Hawaii tax charges.
Christopher Burns was arrested in Largo, Florida, on a Honolulu bench warrant.
The Hawaii Department of Taxation says Burns claimed between $35,000 and $75,000 in withheld state employment taxes on his 2004, 2005 and 2006 Hawaii tax returns.
Tax officials say the actual amount withheld from Burns in 2004 was $570 and no money was withheld in 2005 and 2006.
The tax department says his alleged $75,000 withholding claim in 2006 was caught before he was paid.
