HONOLULU (KHNL) - Governor Linda Lingle signed a proclamation declaring a fire emergency in Hawaii and offering relief for farmers suffering from droughts and wildfires.
The proclamation authorizes the use of the Hawaii National Guard to help civilian authorities in disaster relief.
The declaration comes as the National Weather Service continues to forecast weather for the rest of the year that is drier than normal.
The disaster emergency relief period is effective from August 12, 2007 through the end of the year.
