Shelters Set up in Nanakuli Due to Smoke from Waialua Fire

NANAKULI (KHNL) - Shelters have been set up on the west side at Nanakuli Beach Park due smoke from the Waialua fire.

Fire officials are advising people to be prepared for an evacuation in the Waialua area.  At this point, an evacuation is not necessary but it is better to be prepared.

The fire is now extending in southerly direction towards Schofield range.

Officials say the wind is their largest challenge,  blowing really strong and pushing fire quite a bit.

So far, the fire has burned about 5,000 acres.
