Worker Injured by Van Released from Hospital

By Minna Sugimoto

EWA (KHNL) -- A worker who was seriously hurt when a van slammed into him in Ewa Beach Monday is now out of the hospital. That's according to Honolulu police who are continuing to investigate the crash.

Flowers mark the site where the injured man's co-worker died. An autopsy on Tuesday found 56-year-old Maurice Kong died from multiple blunt-force injuries.

Nineteen-year-old Kaipo Preston told investigators he fell asleep while driving his van on Fort Weaver Road. The van veered off the roadway and plowed into the two men, who were working on an electrical project at a subdivision that's under construction.
