HILO (KHNL) - A 47-year-old man is dead and a 40-year-old woman is in serious condition following a single car accident at the south end of Railroad Avenue in Hilo Monday morning.
The accident happened at about 7:00 a.m. Police say the driver, identified as Kevin Bell, was traveling on Railroad Avenue when he came to a dead-end and crashed into a rock embankment.
Bell and a female passenger were taken to the Hilo Medical Center. Bell was pronounced dead at 11:33 a.m.
Police suspect speed and alcohol played a factor in the crash. Bell was not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was wearing her seatbelt.
