11-year-old Dirt Bike Rider Airlifted to Queen's Following Crash

KAPAA, Kauai (KHNL)  - An 11-year-old Kapa'a boy was airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition Sunday night after being hit by a van in Kapahi. His current condition is not known.

Officials say the boy was leaving a private driveway on a dirt bike near the junction of Kawaihau and Kanepo'onui roads at around 6:30 pm when he was struck by a Ford van driven by a 43-year-old Kapa'a man.

The boy sustained serious injuries and was taken to Wilcox Hospital via ambulance. He was later airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center.

Police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
